The first part of your infant’s exam is a developmental evaluation to determine whether or not he/she is meeting his/her normal developmental milestones. This exam should be scheduled at 9 to 11 months of age. Special attention is paid to eye teaming,tracking, and will assess your infant for Strabismus or crossed/turned eyes, Amblyopia, both causes of "Lazy Eye".

The annual examination is a huge step forward in diagnosing eye disease and preventing vision loss.

In the Fall of 2002, Dr. Martin had his eyes examined, and a retinal tear was diagnosed. Dr. Martin had not had any symptoms. He was, to say the least, surprised. Had the exam not been done, Dr. Martin believes he would have suffered some degree of permanent vision loss.

Because of this personal experience, Dr. Martin recommends all patients have an annual exam every year, as the year before his eyes did not have any pathology. Age is not a restriction.
