Cataracts are a normal part of the aging process.

They are one of the most common changes Dr. Martin will find as we age. Thankfully, they do not represent a threat to the health of the eye, but can impact the quality of vision until they can be removed. Removal is based on many factors, including the health of the patient’s cornea (for more more information see this link), the general health the patient, and the best possible corrected level of vision (how you see with your best possible pair of glasses). All insurance companies limit surgery based on these factors to insure patients are sent for surgery when the benefit will outweigh the risks.
